Is the windows work needed?

Crescent House windows as seen from Goswell Road

The City of London Corporation is keenly aware of the need to maintain the important heritage asset of the Golden Lane Estate. An important part of this is the quality of the windows throughout all the buildings that make up the estate. Examining the present state of the windows will also help The City of London Corporation meet the aspirations of the Climate Action Strategy, which seeks to improve energy efficiency at its investment and corporate properties and integrate climate considerations into all its decisions.

As part of this The City of London Corporation is assessing the condition of the windows across the Golden Lane Estate.

In March 2020, The City of London Corporation commissioned Hallas and Co, chartered surveyors, to conduct a condition survey of the windows in Crescent House.

The drawings below provide a general graphic illustration based on a visual inspection by project architects Studio Partington.

The vision for this project will encompass the potential contribution it can make towards the longer term aims of The City of London Corporation with regards to climate change; moving beyond just improving the performance of the windows and the comfort of residents, though those aims remain fundamental to the project.

With this in mind, a careful examination of the fenestration (windows and window frames) of all buildings on the estate will be made.
